Why Holiday Clubs Are So Important for Children (And Not Just for Fitness)

When school holidays roll around, excitement quickly turns into a familiar parent question…
“How are we going to keep the children busy?”
At Positive Life Experiences (PLE), we work with children aged 6–13, and every holiday we see the same thing: children don’t just need something to do - they need something that helps them grow, connect, and feel good about themselves.
Holiday clubs play a much bigger role than people sometimes realise.

It’s About Confidence, Not Just Sport
Yes, our holiday clubs are active. There’s football, dodgeball, multi-sports and plenty of movement - but the biggest change we see isn’t physical.
It’s confidence.
For some children, holiday clubs are the place where they:
Try something new without pressure
Speak up a little more
Make a decision on their own
Feel proud of themselves for giving something a go
We design our sessions so children feel safe to try, not judged to perform. That’s where real confidence is built.
Keeping Children Active (Without It Feeling Like Exercise)
Let’s be honest - during school holidays, screens can take over very quickly.
Holiday clubs give children:
A reason to move
A full day of activity without realising it
A healthy balance between fun and fitness
The key is that it never feels forced. Children are playing, laughing, competing, cooperating - and staying active naturally.

Supporting Working Parents
Holiday time can be stressful for parents, especially when routines disappear overnight.
Our holiday clubs aim to give parents:
Reliable, structured childcare
Peace of mind knowing children are safe and active
Confidence that their child is enjoying their day, not just being “looked after”
We know how important trust is - especially when leaving your child somewhere - which is why we focus so much on relationships, communication and consistency.
Building Friendships Outside the Classroom
One of the biggest benefits of holiday clubs is the chance to mix with new children from different schools.
We regularly see:
New friendships forming within minutes
Children returning because of the people, not just the activity
Shy children finding their “people”
These social skills matter just as much as physical ones - and they often transfer straight back into school life.
Local Clubs, Local Community
All of our holiday clubs are run across Norfolk, in familiar local venues and communities. That local feel matters. Children feel comfortable, parents feel reassured, and it helps create a real sense of belonging.
Our February Half Term Holiday Clubs
This February half term, we’re running a range of PLE Holiday Clubs, including:
Football
Dodgeball
Multi-sports
Each day is packed with activity, fun, teamwork and opportunities for children to build confidence and friendships - all in a supportive, positive environment.
