We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Cory for his Year 10 work experience placement, and from our perspective, he is a great lad with a fantastic future ahead of him. He approached every task with maturity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to step outside of his comfort zone. Cory showed real initiative, built strong relationships with both staff and students, and demonstrated the kind of attitude that will take him far in any career he chooses.
We are big believers in creating clear pathways for young people, and Cory is a great example of that in action. We’re really pleased to say he’ll be back with us over the summer holidays, continuing his journey and gaining more experience through coaching.

Here’s what Cory had to say about his experience:
I’ve enjoyed it so much—it was a great opportunity that I would take again if I was given the chance. I learnt a lot by going to the schools and meeting so many people, supported by very friendly and welcoming staff who helped answer my questions and introduced me to the working environment.
I got to shadow the team during school PE lessons as well as after-school clubs, working closely with them while asking questions and observing how the job works. I was pushed out of my comfort zone and given the independence to plan a lesson, follow it through, and teach it. This helped me develop my communication skills as well as my confidence, giving me the opportunity to figure things out for myself.

The placement showed me that there are more opportunities and different routes I can take within this type of job. I really enjoyed working with many different students from all backgrounds and getting to know them.
It also gave me a sense of responsibility, especially with timekeeping and personal organisational skills. I found the operational side challenging at times, but I enjoyed it—I was given a selection of tasks to work through independently and complete.
The advice I would give to another student preparing for work experience is to go for it—really push yourself and enjoy it.
Cory’s positive attitude and commitment made him a valuable part of the team, and we have no doubt he’ll continue to grow in confidence and ability. We’re looking forward to having him back with us over the summer and supporting his continued development.
Thanks for reading.
